Your common questions about the services Sweet Peas offers, answered! Frequently Asked Questions About the Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class Can’t I educate myself online using search engines and videos? So much of what you find online is either incomplete or inaccurate! The benefit of the Evidence-Based Birth® Childbirth Class is that we curate the best evidence-based information and engage you and your partner in the learning process. Won't my doctors and nurses tell me what to do? Routine practices in some hospitals are still about 15 to 20 years behind the research, and there is so much pressure to conform to traditions that might not be in your best interests. We will teach you and your partner how to be your own advocate—a skill you can use for the rest of your life! My friends told me that taking a childbirth class is a waste of time. Is that true? There are a lot of poor-quality classes out there that have given childbirth education a bad reputation. The founder of Evidence Based Birth®, Rebecca Dekker, PhD, RN, APRN, knows how to make classes exciting for young adults. The end result is a class that is motivating and SO much fun to participate in. You will learn more than you could ever imagine! What will I actually learn in this class that could be of use to me? Our students are most excited to learn about the entire toolkit of comfort measures for labor. We cover pain management techniques like massage, water immersion, upright birthing positions, acupressure, music therapy, and deep breathing, just to name a few. When labor starts, you and your partner will be ready! About My Birth/Postpartum Support Services Do you take insurance? Currently, I operate my private practice without accepting insurance, and I require a 50% non-refundable retainer fee to hold my calendar for your dates. This allows me to focus on providing personalized care tailored to your needs. I provide detailed invoices with information that your insurance requires for you to seek reimbursement. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss payment options. Looking for another way to pay? With BeHerVillage you can add my services to your registry and encourage your family and friends to help pay for it! Do you do overnight shifts? While I'm happy to care for infants as parents grab a much-needed nap, I do not provide overnight services unless I'm attending a birth. I serve postpartum clients as early as 6 AM and as late as 11 PM. I believe families benefit more from my guidance during the day. My focus is on sharing valuable knowledge and practical support to help parents navigate early postpartum recovery and new parenthood while present and engaged. I want to ensure that you have the tools and resources you need to thrive as a family once I am no longer working with you. How much does your support cost? My birth support service is $3000 and includes prenatal prep, lactation counseling, and postpartum care. I offer flexible, postpartum-only support packages starting at $70 per hour, with no hourly minimum required. Parents have the freedom to customize a package of total hours that best fits their needs and budgets. Please note that a 50% non-refundable retainer of the total service fee is due at signing to secure your spot on my calendar. What areas do you serve? I currently serve families in-person for birth and postpartum support in North San Diego County, offering classes and workshops in both San Diego and Monterey Counties. Additionally, I provide virtual support for families no matter where they are located.

"Autumn has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to advancing her knowledge and expertise in the birthwork world. Her passion for physiological birth and the families she serves is evident in the meticulous care with which she approaches her work, always striving for excellence and seeking out opportunities for professional growth and development. Autumn’s dedication to helping families navigate through the perinatal and postpartum periods through unbiased and evidence based care is commendable to say the least. Autumn possesses a natural ability to convey complex concepts in a manner that is both engaging and accessible to parents of varying levels of understanding. She has a calm and empowering quality about her that creates a very safe and inviting space for learning in what can be such a sensitive and sacred period in people’s lives. She will always take the time and initiative to provide evidence based information for her clients, especially when helping them navigate through informed decision making and consent in what can be unfamiliar territory for most. She has furthermore become incredibly skillful in building and strengthening healthier relationships and dynamics between hospital staff and doulas, to overall improve birthing outcomes and experiences for her clients." -Kat, Colleague "As a Family Medicine physician with a Master’s degree in Epidemiology, evidence-based practice, community advocacy, and inclusivity are passions in both my professional and personal lives. In my professional training I had 3 years of extensive Maternity care training and personally delivered more than 30 babies, taught and supervised junior Residents in Labor & Delivery, was ALSO certified, and provided regular prenatal care, and facilitated CenteringPregnancy group prenatal classes. When my partner and I were blessed in becoming pregnant, I had no question that I needed a doula on my team, and my extensive search in the well resourced San Diego birth workers community lead me directly to Autumn. Our overall experience with Autumn is a prime example of her shining character, reputation in our community, and her commitment to evidence-based care." - Chevon, Birth & Postpartum Client Autumn has sought a multitude of licenses and training experiences to ensure that she is extremely well-rounded and versed in up-to-date evidence-based care. She is optimized in guiding evidence-based maternity care decisions and facilitating optimal outcomes in mothers and newborns. Autumn runs her reputable Sweet Peas Baby, LLC and goes above and beyond through her commitment to social justice by volunteering to provide support to mothers and families who cannot afford doula care. In addition to her education, training and experience, Autumn's empathy, compassion and professionalism are among the best. She establishes a palpably safe space for her clients while providing them the support, guidance and education they need to safely and confidently welcome their babies into the world. It is without reservation that I recommend Autumn. -Sam, Birth & Postpartum Client "In those early days Autumn taught me so much about the ins and outs; breastfeeding, sleeping, and soothing. But also made me think of myself and my recovery. She gave more than practical knowledge and became a friend I was excited to see. She provided nourishing meals and supportive conversation that empowered my postpartum journey. Additionally, Autumn was able to adapt her teaching styles to both my and my husband’s personality knowing we needed different support. We both came to value our individual time with her." -Lauren, Birth & Postpartum Client "As doulas we hold a unique position in the birth space we have been invited into and I had the honor of witnessing firsthand Autumn compassionately assisting many birthing people and their family members. She created trust and respect with her confidence, knowledge and kind manner. She acted as a trusted team member not only for the client but for the hospital staff as well. In hospital staff environments Autumn soared as a non-judgmental support person who allowed everyone to feel at ease and to be seen with dignity and respect." -Sandy, Colleague
